History of this web-site
John Farrell is a visionary...
Darwin, Northern Territory, 1997
John hired me, Martin Goreing, as a computer trainer to teach his two sons (Byron, then 12 and Allan Farrell, then 10) some fundamentals of computer literacy on an old 386 machine running Windows 3.1.
The boys took to things pretty smartly, and after a couple of lessons, were thrashing around in File Manager and playing games OK, so I left 'em to it.
A couple of years later, technology had moved on all around. The trainer had drifted into web-publishing; both boys had put on a growth spurt, and even Johnny the Dinosaur couldn't ignore the technology any longer...
John Farrell, trading as Territory Track and Field has been providing Sportswear to rural and remote Northern Territory for the last 18 years.
I approached him, over a coffee at the Roma Bar (the place for people who take a cappuchino seriously), about putting up a web-site for ttfsport. He was pretty keen, but instead of paying someone to just do it, he again engaged me to work as a trainer with him and the boys, this time teaching them web-publishing skills.
Consequently, the first version of this web-site was a collaborative effort between all of us, developed as a web-site for ttfsport, but more importantly as a training exercise for the boys. With our encouragement, they cruised the web to harvest graphics and get ideas about web-pages. The graphics on the first version of the web-site came from shareware galleries, so thanks to all the good people who put such sites on the web.
Fast forward to 2001
ttfsport became the NT Distributor for Buffalo Sporting goods, and it was time to give the web-site a major upgrade. We set up a domain name, (ttfsport.com.au) and got stuck into it. To his credit, John recognised that putting a 1500 item Buffalo Sporting Goods catalogue on-line was not going to happen overnight, and funded the project accordingly.
It is the biggest website that I have built - more than 460 pages and over 700 graphics. We wanted the site to be easy to navigate, to be interactive, and for the pages to be quick loading. I wanted you (our guest on the web-site) to be able to navigate from any page to any page, and I wanted you to be able to search the site from any page. I also wanted the site to work in any browser - please drop us a note in the guestbook to let us know if we have achieved these objectives.
Happy surfing!
